POTPOURRI

Sometimes called a 'mish-mash'.
(as on k.j.'s blog)
And this post is definitely that. But I do love the word
Potpourri, and use it at every opportunity.

I've been painting, yes I have.
Here is one example:

Machu Picchu
(as seen through my mind's eye)

But that was a couple of weeks ago.
Blogger is giving me such headaches loading pictures these days.
Either they are sideways, or blurry.
I may ask for a refund.

Some of my more recent painting has been
HOUSE PAINTING.
The trim. Lots of trim,,, gutters, and the porch
on the back of the house.
"Creme Frache"
fancy-scmantzy for white.
Don't you love paint color names?
This photo shows the work on-going on the front porch.
We still have to paint the floor, steps, and foundation.
We've chosen a color I used to call
GREIGE.
a totally neutral gray/beige
The railing will be painted black, and we'll add new black lights.

and someday I'll learn to hold the camera straight,
not crooked.

This morning I got up really early in order to be coffee-ed
up and outside working before the heat hit.
I grabbed my cut-off paint jeans from the corner where they were standing on their own, yanked my hair into a stubby, scruffy,
geriatric pony tail and I was ready to show up on the job.
The Boyfriend said:
"Well, if you aren't the cutest 'lil painter I know"
Right.
He knows exactly one in a row, and just wanted to make sure I
was going to paint today.
I took my trusty old Boombox (yeah, yeah,,, I know, I know)
loaded with my Neil Diamond c.d.'s and was on
the ladder by 7:30.
Nice and cool, I was painting and dreaming, lost in
"Love On The Rocks,,,,,ain't no surprise. Pour me a drink, and I'll tell you some lies"

I saw him in concert in 1970. Had he asked, I would gladly have run away
with him, even without a drink or lies. I read that he had his 70th. (!) birthday
a few days ago, and had just gotten married.
(I'm guessing he didn't receive my note that I was still waiting)

Suddenly, The Boyfriend appeared at the bottom
of my ladder,,,probably to micro-manage my brush strokes.
(he excells in this, and was finished with his part, having started much earlier than I)

Without thinking,,,,,,,I jerked my head up to see where he was pointing,,,,and now, the entire top of my head, from ponytail forward to bangs is
CREME FRACHE

Yep,,,,,,,
Love On The Rocks.
(ain't no big surprise)

Aw,,,,go on, listen to the song. You KNOW you want to!
(and it's gonna be running through your head a couple days anyway)

Now I'm on my way back to the front of the house, where the sun isn't, with Neil in tow.
We're gonna paint us some black ("Pepper Pot")
railing this afternoon.

Lovely painting, both :-). You made me laugh, I saw Neil in concert in the late 70's and he was wonderful, I guess that makes us old, but lucky :-). xoxo

Great color choices on the house painting...you two have some good times while taking on the big jobs! I don't think Neil would be such a good worker...best let him serenade you while working! Fun post Babs!

Hi, and thanks Jeane!
Jack is often the best little stand up comic, without even knowing he's funny.

kj, if The Boyfriend and I aren't doing well by now, we never will. We've been doing this routine a very long time. And,,,,I can read his mind. Shhhh, don't tell.

Hey Lynn,
I am often furious at Blogger. There is one blog that won't let me comment at all. Ever.It won't 'recognize' me there. And I used to visit and comment there a good bit.
I wish the painting photo wasn't blurred,,,it's actually pretty decent. Thanks!
:-)

Mim, what you'd have loved more is watching me trying to comb, brush and wash it out! Some of it just ripped! Today I wore a ball cap.
Can't be losing anymore wads of hair!

Hi Angel,,,,really good to see you!
No, I'm probably the only person standing upright who doesn't do Facebook.I opened an account, but only so we could see photos of kids from the family.I just don't get into the whole idea of it, and waste too much time online anyway, ha! I'd rather visit blogs and look at art. I'm coming over to your house and see what you're up to!

Annie, hiya!
He's pretty special, isn't he?
The voice, the words. I never even really thought him especially good looking. But he didn't need to be, as I'd still have run away with him.
Lucky to be old and alive, yes. And lucky to have seen Neil, yes!
(but you aren't really old yet)
XOXO

Hi Suki,
Spirits are high here, yep. Finally some tolerable weather to be able to get out of the air conditioning and get something done. Things are shaping up, yessireeee!

Blue Sky, we do have us some good times.
And I think you're right, Neil probably has never held a paintbrush while singing on those "Hot August Nights",,,
:-D

Lo, I'm glad you got a laugh!
Also glad you like Machu Picchu.
Wanna borrow some dry pants?
You can wear my stand alone paint cut-offs, but I'll be needing them back again tomorrow.More painting to do, although I did finish the railing and it looks GREAT!
YAAAAAAAAA
xoxo

I love the colours and depth of your top painting - wish I could create something like that!

Ahhh, what a word picture you also paint - adore that image of you atop that ladder splattered from pony-tail to cheek in paint. I'm guessing the boyfriend only thought it served to enhance your already gorgeous face!

You old dog! You sneak these posts in when I'm not looking.
I LOVED Neil. "Stones" was my favorite album. (I still have it.)He does have a way of mellowing you out while working outside. I've been having a lot of painted hair myself lately.
This is a cool painting, and it does look like Machu Picchu.

Oooh I adored Neil Diamond in the Jazz Singer- must have seen it 5 times. Oooh shivers up the spine. And I love Jack's comment about the tooth fairy, kids are so honest!

Oh baba- what a story! From the jeans standing up on their own to the ( and this one's my favorite) geriatric pony tail ( hahaha) what a word picture!! nothing perks up a home like fresh painted trim. Beautiful. We are getting cool tems tomorrow, hope you are too. As always, so lovely to hear from you.

Thanks Shrink,
And don't I wish I could handle that pen like you?
Ha, The Boyfriend has always liked me best as a 'working girl'
;-D

Hey Kate,
WOOF.
I also had Stones.Donated all my albums during the move, since my turntable gave up the ghost a few years ago.
I know, lots of that painted hair syndrome goin' round, huh?

Hey Jossie.
I loved the music from that movie more than the movie itself, for some reason, which I've now forgotten.
Ah, yes. The honesty,,,and innocence of a child! So much humor in both.

Cathie,,,it's great to see you too!
We had a gorgeous day today, after a most welcome thunderstorm and rain last night. (finally rain, thank you God)
Painted all day again today, and it was fabulous, although I have to admit I'm tiring of it, yes I am,,,,,,but it's all looking so new and fresh. Well worth it.

Love the painting, the house painting, the BF, and love love love Neil! Oh my high school years. Thank you for your kind words and prayers. They really do carry me. God is amazing and has brought me quite quickly to a place of peace and acceptance of what I cannot change, and I am changing what I can, in order to be able to care for my Brawny Man when that time comes. **kisskiss** Deb
